Mr. Herman Braswell Jr.'s Obituary
Fremont - The Management and Stafff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors joins with the Braswell and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mr. Herman Braswell, 83 , of Fremont, NC.
Herman Braswell, Jr. was born on January 21, 1943, to the late Herman Coley Braswell and Sadie “Bell” Reid Braswell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elouise Braswell Dent.
Herman Jr. received his education in the Wayne County School System. He often spoke fondly of picking cotton and helping his parents run their little county store. His first real job was with Wooten Music Company in Fremont, NC. He later began driving an eighteen-wheeled car-carrier tractor trailer for Ed’s Used Cars in Nahunta.
A true risk taker, Herman tried his hand at being a junkman for a while before deciding it wasn’t for him and returning to truck driving. He spent some time driving log trucks for his own business, Braswell Trucking, and eventually went to work for Reuben Hawes Trucking in Wilson, NC. If there was a job to be done, chances are Herman had done it. He was well known by many. Some called him Superfly because he loved to dress sharp. His trucker friends called him Hot Shot. Others knew him as Earl, and to Tony he was simply Herm. Some called him granddaddy, papa, and pee-pa.
In his later years, a special group of people came in to Herman’s life-the Gentva Hospice Team. One affectionately called him her “Gentiva husband,” another called him “Hermie Herm,” and others simply “Herm.” Butto his children, he was always just Daddy. Herman Jr. lived an interesting, full, and memorable life.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Cherri Braswell Crawford (special son-in-law Tony) of Pikeville, NC; Virginia Braswell of Pikeville, NC; Carliss Braswell High of Goldsboro, NC; Michael Charse Braswell of Eaton, PA; Rhonda Jones (Lamont) of Waldorf, MD; Tracy Eatmon of Wilson, NC, Derrick Eatmon of Wilson, NC; Bernice Braswell of Wilson, NC; Minister Junie Gail Williams (Pastor Williams) of Wilson, NC; Calvetti Val Shon Johnson of TX; Shamara Williams of Goldsboro, NC; and Reggie Williams of Goldsboro, NC. He is also survived by thirty-one grandchildren, twenty-six great grandhchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren, three nieces, other relatives, friends, and his long-time friend Martha Jones.
