Mr. Johnson transitioned at the Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation, Goldsboro, NC.
James Johnson, Jr., 97, of La Grange, passed away on January 26, 2025.
James affectionately known as Grizzy was born on 12/03/1927 to Mrs. Catherine Slater and Mr. James Johnson, Sr in Sumter, SC.
He worked and retired from Export Tobacco as a mechanic for over 26 years.
In 1965, James met Magaline "Sue" Ellis in Goldsboro. James and Magaline raised 7 children together.
In 1996, James retired and spent his time going to Myrtle Beach, enjoying wrestling matches, and baseball games.
James was predeceased by his wife Magaline, daughter Alice Artis, and sons Jack Ellis & Columbus Ellis. Also his sisters Tisher White and Catherine Slater. He is survived by Paul (Jacqueline) Ellis of Goldsboro, NC Roszell (Lady) Ellis of Jersey City, NJ. Diane Davis of Washington, DC. Daughter-in-law Linda Ellis of Goldsboro, NC. Shirley(Nathaniel) Underwood of La Grange, NC. Grandchildren who were reared in his home include: Patricia (Mack) Murray of Saluston, NC, and Levern(Caprice) Davis of Silver Springs, Maryland, Durwood(Sandra) Davis of Las Vegas, NV. Also one special niece Denise White of Sumter, SC. He also leaves a host of Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Williams and Ashford Goldsboro, NC 2/3/25 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his estate executor Shirley Underwood at $shirleyunderwood58
