Mrs. Melinda Gayle Jacobs' Obituary
With profound sorrow and empathy, the staff and management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors join with the Jacobs and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mrs. Melinda Gail Jacobs, 82.
It is with a heart full of gratitude that we celebrate the joyful life of Melinda Gayle Shambley Jacobs, who peacefully transitioned on May 6, 2025, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Melinda, born on December 15, 1942, in Sampson County to the loving parents, Wallace and Beadie Shambley, radiated compassion and love throughout her remarkable 82 years.
Melinda is now reunited in spirit with her beloved siblings: Wallace Shambley (Ruth), James Shambley (Dorthy), Ephesian Shambley (Pearl), J.B. Shambley (Evalena), Edna Shine (Edmond), Robena Stevens (Claudie), Marie Hayes (Cornelis), and Shirley Shambley (Vannie).
A devoted wife to the late Bernice Vernell Jacobs and an extraordinary mother to her son, Gregory Jacobs, and her late daughter, Cosandra Jacobs, Melinda found immense joy in her family. She was a proud grandmother to Shikim Jacobs, Shandrika Jacobs, and Lakira Stackhouse, and a beloved grandmother-in-law to Darien Stackhouse. Her greatest treasures were her great-grandchildren: Anijaa Council, Cameron Council, Journee Stackhouse, and Rhikim Jacobs. Affectionately known as “Grandma” to many, her warmth extended to countless non-biological grandchildren, all of whom adored her as if she were their own.
Family was the heart of Melinda’s existence. Her unbreakable bond with her big brother, Robert Shambley, and his wonderful wife, Avis Shambley, brought her endless joy. She treasured her great-nieces and great-nephews and had a special place in her heart for a long list of loved ones.
As a loving aunt, Melinda was a guiding star, nurturing not just her blood relatives but also her cherished “outside daughters and son,” including Delores Simmons, Linda Jones, Ashley Clark, Victoria Aldina, Sheyla, and Pastor Avy Gonzalez. She held a special appreciation for Dianne Faison and her family, expressing immense love and gratitude for their shared moments.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Melinda earned the affectionate title of Mother of Faith, Hope & Charity Church. Her kindness and vibrant spirit touched everyone around her. She had an incredible gift of making friends wherever she went, always greeting strangers with a warm smile and a helping hand. Melinda’s generosity knew no bounds, as she willingly offered her support to anyone in need.
Her delightful sweet tooth, mouthwatering home-cooked meals, and love for game shows were just a few of the many joys she shared with others. But above all, it was her radiant light, infectious laughter, and the unwavering love she gave that will be everlasting.
Melinda’s remarkable legacy of kindness, family, and faith will continue to brighten the lives of all who were honored to know her. While we will carry her memory in our hearts, we sincerely celebrate the blessing she was to us all.
