Goldsboro - We the staff and Management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors pause to announce the earthly transition of Mr. Allen Eugene Collins, 71, of Goldsboro; who transitioned at the Wayne UNC Health Care Center, Goldsboro, NC . Mr. Allen Eugene Collins departed this life on Sunday, January 16, 2022. He was born in Beaufort, N.C. on January 16, 1951, to the late Eddie Lee and Ida Mae Collins.Allen was a graduate of East Carteret High School. He attended Kittrell College on a basketball scholarship, later transferring to Fayetteville State University to continue playing the sport he loved. Allen was famously known for his unbelievable "left-handed shot". Allen was a member of the Tau Phi Tau Fraternity. The fraternity was established because the founders felt the need for a fraternity oriented towards black men in a college or university environment should be more connected to and involved with members in the black community. A pivotal part of the fraternity's charter was voter registration drives, helping with tutoring high school and middle school kids and participating in rallies and protests for social and racial justice.After moving to Goldsboro, he was employed by Cherry Hospital and The O'Berry Center. Allen was a talented individual. He learned and mastered the trade of brick mason from his father and a high school teacher. Because of his passion and love for cooking he once managed the Country Style Grill.An avid sports fan, often on the weekends Allen would spend hours watching basketball and football games. There were many times he would prepare large and delicious meals and invite his friends over to watch the games with him. Another one of his passions was going to the W. A. Foster Community Center playing pool, dominoes, spades and bid wiz, checkers, and fellowshipping with others.In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his sister Angela and brother Larry. Left to forever cherish his memory are his sons, DeeAllen Morris, of Beaufort, N.C. and Jeron Collins of Goldsboro: His sisters: Grace Ellison (William) of Beaufort. Ettie Collins of Greensboro. His brothers: Kenneth of Beaufort, Otis (Desiree) of Baltimore, MD, Quinton (Carrie), Samuel (Lugene) of Beaufort, and Gregory of Wilmington: a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, whom he loved dearly and who loved him dearly.Services of Integrity and Compassionate Care have been entrusted to Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors.
