He received his formal education in the Wayne County Public School system and was employed by the Wayne County Public School Systems as a Maintenance Supervisor where he worked for an extended period of time.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Annie Ruth Exum, wife Wilma Exum, son, Kiera Mondareo Exum.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: children; Samuel Devon Cannon of Goldsboro, NC; Samuel (BJ) Exum, of Charlotte, NC; and Samella Wallace of Greensboro, NC; siblings: Leonza (Annette) Exum of Goldsboro, NC; Annie Reid of Goldsboro, NC; Gaynell Exum of Goldsboro, NC; Audrey Exum of Dudley, NC; Marian (Oscar) Merritt of Wichita Falls, Texas; Arlene (Edward) Taylor of Dudley, NC; Regina (Norman) Gardner of Clinton, MD; Ronnie Exum of Goldsboro, NC; aunt: Mary Lee Davis; uncle: Thurman (Wanda) Exum; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a very special friends; Simone Holmes and host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
