Dudley - The staff and management of Williams & Ashford Funeral DIrectors announce the earthly transition of Mr. Wilbert Melvin, 69, of 107 Connie's Walk, Dudley, NC. Mr. Melvin passed away at his residence on April 14, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Diane Melvin of the home.
This Life Once Dawned
Mr. Wilbert Melvin, the son of the late Willie Lee and Gertrude Melvin was born June 10, 1952, in Wayne County. On April 14, 2022, he departed this life at home.
That Shone with Brilliance
Wilbert attended the Wayne County Schools (George Washington Carver & Southern Wayne). He worked at the Calypso Plywood Co., and Georgia Pacific Plywood until his health declined.
He joined Gospel Light United Holy Church at an early age.
He loved to cook and would often barbecue and invite friends and family over. He had a mild manner that drew adults and children to him. He loved to play spades.
And Warmed so many lives
Wilbert was united in Holy Matrimony to Diane Morrison. Their joy was multiplied in the four children they had. Two sons and two daughters. A daughter Linda A. Morrison Durham, a sister of Judy Player, and close friend Vascoe Robinson preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his spouse: Diane Morrison Melvin of the home; his children: Niki Morrison of Goldsboro, NC, Danny R. Melvin, Goldsboro, NC, and Curtis L. Melvin of the home; his grandchildren: Antwan Green, Sr. and Jeremy Morrison both of Goldsboro, NC, Deshawn Morrison of the home, Sheryl Morrison of Mt. Olive, NC, and Lailah Moye of Dudley, NC.; great-grandchildren: Antwan Green, Jr, Zymeria Morrison, Lauren Morrison, London Morrison, Khijah Hoggler, Aikeen Morrison, Harmori Morrison, and Liyah Morrison; special brother; James Bell of Mt. Olive, NC.; sister: Dora M. Whitefield of Mt. Olive, NC; special nephews: Robert Whitefield, Jr of West Goochland, Va, Kristian Whitfield, Sr of Mt. Olive, NC, (He was a helpmate to his uncle wether cooking or spade partner.); special cousins: Linda McDaniel of New York (she was his consistent phone partner and talked frequently with him.), Regina Moore Corbett of Mt. Olive, NC, (Football Phone Partner), Larry Corbett (Leslie) of New York, Johnnie Melvin (Geneva) of Dudley, NC (Frequent Visitor and barbecue partner); Elder Anthony Flow (Vicky) of Mt. Olive, NC, Robbie Flow, Donna Flow of Dudley, NC, (Football phone partner) and Wanda Flow of Dudley, NC.; special aunt, Eldress Dorothy McDaniel of Mt. Olive,NC and a host of other family special friends.
