For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:5
The battle is over, and the victory is won for Deaconess Dorothy Cox Wright affectionately known as "Dot". Dorothy slipped away into the loving arms of the Father with both her sons by her side. Dorothy will be missed, but her legacy of love and life will live on in the hearts and minds of all that knew her.
Dorothy "Dot" was born October 8, 1942, to Leah Cox Massey in Turkey, North Carolina. Dot was dually reared in Turkey and Goldsboro, North Carolina. She was educated within Wayne County School System and graduated from Dillard High School in 1961. Upon graduating, she moved to New York, New York. It was in New York that she met her devoted husband, Tommie Wright, who preceded her in death. Dorothy and Tommie were wed on September 22, 1962, and from that union were blessed with five children. Dot was a devoted wife and mother who was present and dedicated to her family.
Dorothy was a lifelong follower of Christ. She first accepted Christ at the tender age of 13 years old. As a youth, she attended St. mark Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop J.L. Melvin, receiving her baptism in Durham Lake. She became a faithful member of Augusta Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1972 and attended until her passing. Dot was a part of the Deaconess Board, Senior Choir, Pastor's Aide Club, and served as Financial Secretary and Treasurer for a tome. Although Dorothy never worked outside the home, she was very much occupied with being a mother and homemaker. She also served her community by providing neighborhood daycare for many children. Dot also sewed and made clothes for her family and others.
She leaves to continue her memory, her children: Natasha Wright Edwards of Deltona, Florida; Nicole Wright Fields (Leroy) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Brandon Wright (Angela) of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Tavarres Wright of Glen-Burnie, Maryland. She leaves seven grandchildren and a host of cousins, and many special friends.
