Mrs. Lakeba E. Watkins' Obituary
WASHINGTON, DC - The Manangement and Staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors announce the earthly transition of Mrs. Lakeba E. Watkins, 49. Mrs. Watkins transitioned at the Durham Va Medical Center in Durham, NC.
On January 5, 2023, Lakeba Watkins -Barker, Wife, Mother, Daughter, and sister, passed away. After a valiant battle with cancer, at the age of 49, she succumbs to her illness. She held on like the fighter we know her to be. To know her as a person was an honor; she was strong and fearless, yet soft and loving. She never missed an opportunity to put a smile on your face. In her last six months, she was in unimaginable pain, but she greeted all guests with a smile.

Father: Wille B. Watkins
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, her family moved to N.C. when she was 16. There she finished High School at Southern Wayne High, Class of 92'. Immediately after graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army, where she learned to drive large fuel trucks. This was proven to be useful later in life.
On February 5, 1996, She gave birth to her only child, Demanguess Akari Williams. He was born with a heart defect, and she never left his side. She stayed in the hospital with him until he was able to get the corrective surgery. He never left her side in the last few weeks of her life.
She was preceded in death by Wille B Watkins, Harold Lemmon, Josephine Lemmon, Elizabeth Lemmon
She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband, Terrence W. Barker; Son, Demanguess A. Williams, Daughter, Samantha J. Barker; Grandson, Daniel Barker, Siblings: Julie, Latasha, Charles, and James.
Memorial Services will be observed on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 3 PM at the chapel of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors - 401 N. William St., Goldsboro, NC 27530.
