Clayton - The Staff and Management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors and Cremations join with the Thompson and connected families to announce the earthly passing of Mr. Clifton Earl Thompson, III, 50, who transitioned at the Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Clifton Earl Thompson III was born February 7th, 1972, in Goldsboro, NC, to Cassandra Newsome and Clifton Thompson Jr. He departed this life on the evening of April 15th, 2022, surrounded by his family.
In 1990, Clifton joined the United States Army and served proudly and honorably in both the Army and North Carolina National Guard for over 29 years. He completed his career as a Master Sergeant, with his last active-duty station being HQ 139th Regiment NG. MSG Thompson was a Soldier among Soldiers and was awarded countless military awards, including but not limited to Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), and numerous other badges, citations, and campaign ribbons. Upon retiring in 2019, he proudly obtained two master's degrees from Webster University.
He is survived by his wife, Kristi, and their children, Mikayla, Clifton IV, and Christian, all of Clayton, NC. His mother, Cassandra Newsome of Fremont, NC, his father, Clifton Thompson Jr. of Goldsboro, NC, his brother John Thompson (Tarsha) of Goldsboro, NC, his sister Phelecia Coley of DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
