We the Staff and Management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors humbly bow to the will of God and join the Mitchell and connected families to announce the earthly transition of Pastor Charlie A. Mitchell, 74, of Goldsboro, NC.
Pastor Elder Charlie Albert Mitchell age 74, Born June 9, 1947, in Wayne County, NC was the oldest son born to the late Jessie Albert and Lenora Mitchell.
He transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 7:54 AM at UNC Wayne Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Central High School in Goldsboro, NC in May 1967. He obtained a Diploma in Automotive Technology from La Salle University. He was trained as a Transmission Specialist at Wayne Community College. He also was a dedicated student at the United Christian College.
Pastor Mitchell worked for 22 years as an A Certified Mechanic using his creative ingenuity to keep the Celotex Corporation Plant of Dudley, NC running smoothly. His ability to deal with difficult situations made him an example of how a Christian employee should work and live in this world. He was an excellent handyman that had the ability to repair almost anything you brought to him.
Pastor Mitchell was an accomplished musician. His interest in music peaked as he watched his father play the guitar during church services. He was so fascinated at how he was playing that he took a chance of being severely disciplined and began to secretly practice on his father's guitar while his father was not at home.
At the age of 18, on January 18, 1966, Pastor Mitchell heard the call to salvation and was drawn to the altar and received Christ as his Lord and Savior during a 30-night revival service under the late Pastor Mary Wallace at James Street United Holy Church, Goldsboro, NC.
A few months later in another 30-night revival service, he was Sanctified Holy on Thursday Night, March 17, 1966, and baptized with the Holy Ghost on Friday Night, March 18, 1966, under the Late Elder Ella Langston-Mitchell at First Corinthians United Holy Church, Grantham, NC. While praying at the altar, Pastor Mitchell met Evangelist Herlene Leftwridge and he later married her as the love of his life on September 3, 1968.
He developed his skills as a musician and began to play for Elder Ella Langston-Mitchell and then following the late Bishop Leamon Dudley. He went on to play the lead guitar and sang with the Spiritual Travelers from 1969-1979. This quartet group was popular for singing songs like: "All Of My Help" & "I'm Going To Serve The Lord". Many were saved and delivered through the anointed service of this musician and group.
After a while, Pastor Mitchell began to feel the call of God to come off the road as a musician and seek the Lord for a deeper level. It was then that he had a vision of a blackboard with the words teach and preach written on it. He obeyed God and preached his initial sermon on January 17, 1986, under Bishop Leamon Dudley at Saint Delight United Holy Church. His subject was "God Can But, He Can't" (Psalm 78:8-18)
His first appointment as a Pastor was at Judge Tabernacle United Holy Church Kinston, NC where he served from 1989-1997. He was also assigned to Lily Of The Valley United Holy Church Fremont, NC from 1990-1991, and while serving there he then received an unction from the Spirit of God to establish Bread of Heaven United Holy Church which had its first Bible Study on January 8, 1992. Pastor Mitchell served faithfully as 2nd Vice President then was elevated to Vice President of the Eastern District Union from 1994-2006.
Pastor Mitchell had many mottos such as "You Can Make It If You Try", "Success Is In The Press" and "Unity Is Where God Commands His Blessings"
Pastor Mitchell was a very humble, loving, giving, caring, kind, wise, and honorable man. He was proud of his children as they became Christians and followed in his footsteps and served as he did in their several abilities as psalmist, musicians, prayer warriors, preachers, and entrepreneurs.
