Hood Swamp - With Sincere compassion and sympathy, we, the Staff and Management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors and Cremations, join with the Johnson and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mr. Thomas Johnson, 72, of Goldsboro, NC.
Thomas Johnson was born to the late H.B. and Laurina Spruill Johnson.
Born in Wayne County, Thomas was raised in the Hood Swamp Community from the
age of 5.
Thomas attended Wayne County public schools, including Central Primary School, until
integration in 1970, when he entered Eastern Wayne High School, from which he
graduated in 1971.
Thomas was raised to work; his first job was on the farm, where he worked until the age
of 15. At 15, he obtained a work permit, and his brother James helped him to get his
first public job at Snipes Ford company, washing cars and moving them around the lot.
Thomas served his employment faithfully until graduation. Upon graduation, James
brought his brother alongside him again at Wayne County School System, where he
worked 28 years with two years of leave, totaling 30 years of service in various roles
(coal delivery, lawn maintenance, Trash truck driver, and head mechanic.) During this
time, Thomas also maintained his at-home mechanic shop, Lawn Care service, and Grill
master and continued to work on the farm until his full retirement from the Wayne
County School System. As we all know, Thomas never fully retired ( He did what he
wanted, when he wanted, he did not have to punch anybody's clock, and when he was
done, he was done. Thomas continued to serve his community, providing an array of
